Text: This year I’m going to journal my Christmas. I want to write a little every day, and by doing so I hope to focus on the magical, the spiritual and the real purpose and reason for celebrating this sacred holiday. I love Christmas! I love almost everything about it, even some of the commercial things that everyone complains about. Shopping is fun, and I enjoy finding the perfect gifts for the people I love. More than that I love seeing the expressions on their faces, when they open it and I was right... it’s just want they wanted, even if they hadn’t realized it. I enjoy going with my family to find a Christmas tree, then decorating it with the children and ribbing Fred because he doesn’t want to help. I love dressing up and going to Christmas parties, and all the goodies that come along with the season. I love Christmas carols and get exasperated when radio stations play the non-Christmas music in December. I love driving around and pointing out all the great yards covered in lights. And books of sentimental stories I’ve heard or read for decades still make me laugh and cry. However, the true meaning of Christmas would still be magical to me, even if none of those things existed. Though I believe He was born in the spring, I love this time of year because we celebrate the birth of my Savior Jesus Christ. The Christmas hymns give me chills and bring tears to my eyes. Reading the sacred story in Luke 2, and having my children act out the parts are priceless. So I’ll write about all of it. And if I miss a day or two, I won’t get discouraged. But I want my focus to be the sacred and sublime, so I may share my testimony and my love of this season with my family, and at the same time remind myself why it is that December is the most magical time of the year.
